P90X for Surfers
It’s the heart of summer, and the heat wave finally hit! If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere with an ocean coast, that means that you either got to enjoy the view of masses of fit, tan surfers hitting the waves or, better yet, you got to join them in their enjoyment of the ultimate summer pastime. Whether you are a surfer, aspire to be a surfer or just want to look like a surfer, P90X is the ideal workout for surfing fitness. After all, there’s a reason that P90X is used and endorsed by champion professional surfer Kelly Slater. It’s because the nature of the workout gives surfers advantages in areas that they need.
Core Strength: Surfing requires exceptional abdominal and core strength in order to maintain an upright position, balance and control the board. P90X works your abdominals in every routine, but particularly focuses on them in Yoga X, Ab Ripper X and Core Synergistics. P90X is designed to have you end the ninety days with a six pack and a firm core, just what you’ll need to control that long board (and look great on the beach).
Lower Body Strength: In order to position yourself on the board and, again, to control the board, you’ll need quads of steel and calves that don’t budge. You’ll also need a dose of flexibility thrown in there! P90X has strength workouts dedicated to nothing but developing your leg strength, and it also features a plyometrics, or jump training, workout that strengthens legs while adding flexibility. Not to mention Kenpo X, which features martial arts kicking exercises.
Balance: With P90X, you’ll gain balance through every workout, but particularly in the Yoga X workouts that utilize the P90X yoga blocks. If you can’t balance on the board, then your surf career will be short lived. However, the better your balance skills are, the more likely you are to stay on the wave.
While those benefits are specific to surfers, the long and short of it is that P90X puts you in the best shape of your life, and that makes you better at any sport. So get out your summer P90X tank top and hit the beach. Not only will you be better on your board, you’ll look better in your wetsuit as well!
