P90X is a challenging workout and nutrition program that some would say might be a little too much for an exercise beginner. We don’t think that that’s true at all! We think that, to a certain degree, just diving in to an intense workout is the best way to go. You’ll feel great about what you’ve accomplished, you’ll see results and at the end of it all you’ll be ready to really incorporate fitness into your life. There won’t be any point where you get bored or tired of the workout and just quit. For many people, having a challenge is the key to making a workout program work for them. That said, here are some tips for beginners!
Modify the Workout as Needed: P90X creator Tony Horton will always show you a slightly easier modification of all exercises, and you can always choose the level of intensity that you’ll use with each cardio workout. If you’re a fitness newbie, then be careful not to over do it. You’ll risk injury as well as potentially find yourself too exhausted to stick to the program.
Read and Use the Internet: Tony Horton does a great job of explaining and demonstrating exercises, but if you feel like you may not be doing something correctly, read about the exercise or look it up on the internet. While there are dozens of benefits to working out at home, you don’t have somebody watching you like a gym trainer to correct your form. If something feels like you may be doing it wrong, do a little research (just like you are now) to find the right information and demonstrations.
Eat, Drink and Manage Your Time: You’ll find a lot of articles on the Finish Well Fitness blog about the need for proper nutrition, proper hydration, proper sleep and good time management so that you don’t miss out on your workout time. Read them, and then be sure to use those best practices!
Have Everything You Need: Nothing will stop your workout in its tracks faster than suddenly realizing that you don’t have everything that you need to complete it. For P90X, make sure you have everything that you need from the P90X accessories and P90X nutrition categories. Whatever workout you choose, you don’t want to have to backtrack if you find you’re missing a critical component. Make sure that whatever it is that you need in order to workout, you have it.
Getting started with a fitness routine is the hardest part of any fitness plan. Read up, study up and then jump in. If you’re diligent and determined, you won’t be needing beginner tips for very long!
