P90X and Pregnancy
P90X is one of the most challenging workouts on the market today. It’s designed to push the limits of what you can do physically while also teaching you about proper nutrition for optimal results. However, if you’re pregnant, there are very specific ways in which P90X can work into your life. Read on below for information about P90X and pregnancy that you should consider before deciding a course of action for your fitness plan during your pregnancy.
It Is Safe to Workout During Your Pregnancy: Even your doctor will tell you that not only is it safe to workout during your pregnancy, it’s actually preferred. Your body is healthiest when it’s active, so some form of workout is important to do during your pregnancy. However, it’s important that you discuss what types of workouts and the level of exertion that you should go through with your doctor before beginning any plan.
Do NOT Push Yourself During Your Pregnancy: During your pregnancy, your body needs lots of energy to support your child and his or her development. Your workouts should not be incredibly difficult or in any way push your comfort levels. If this means that P90X isn’t for you and you should just be taking nightly walks around the block, then that’s ok. Again, check with your doctor. You can also …
Modify Your P90X Workouts: All of the P90X workouts can be modified to be done at a lower intensity. Reduce your exertion level during the cardio. Don’t do chin-ups or pull-ups. Just, essentially, walk or “mark” your way through the workouts. This will keep you active while not pushing your limits during this important time of your health and life cycle.
Focus on Yoga X: Yoga is one of the best workout forms for pregnant women, and with your P90X yoga mat and P90x yoga blocks in hand, you’ll be able to benefit from P90X’s Yoga X workout well into your pregnancy.
Save P90X for Post Pregnancy Baby Weight Loss: Of course, what we’d really recommend is waiting until after you’ve had your bundle of joy and then kicking into high gear for using P90X to lose that baby fat and surprise everybody by being in the best shape of your life after you’ve had a baby. While you’re pregnant, consider a less intense workout such as the Slim Series and then save the bad boy P90X for getting into your best body form afterwards. Also, a great post-pregnancy workout plan will bring you mental benefits as well during what can be a stressful (though joyous) time.
The short version? Talk to your doctor about what the right approach to fitness during your pregnancy is, but whatever you do, don’t do anything that will put undue physical strain on yourself!
