Insanity Workout Reviews: Max Interval Plyo
As you probably know by now, Shaun T.’s Insanity Workout is a sixty day workout plan that primarily uses the principles of plyometrics to shape your body into a lean muscle, low fat beach ready machine! To make sure you know what you’re getting into when you enter the Insanity, we’ll be reviewing each of the workouts on the Finish Well Fitness blog. Today, we’ll talk about the sixth workout, Max Interval Plyo
You’ve now entered the “Max” workouts portion of the Insanity workouts. This means that the workouts are longer (this one is fifty-five minutes) and plain old harder. That doesn’t mean that you’re not going to start in traditional Insanity way, by which we mean with a solid warm-up and an emphasis on stretching. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: We appreciate Shaun T.’s commitment to honoring the need to make sure everybody gets solid stretching in.
Your first set of exercises will focus on your legs. It’s a set of four exercises that feature our old favorite Power Jumps along with a nice set of Switch Jumps. You’ll do the standard interval, or should we say Max Interval, set of three of these with small breaks. Then you’ll get a water break before you have to kick it into gear for the next section.
Your second set of exercises includes push-ups. It doesn’t just include one set of push-ups, it includes two sets of push-ups, and they are of the jumping up and down into push-up position variety! In between the push-ups, you’ll do some back and leg exercises. And, as always, three sets is the rule.
In your final circuit, you’ll only need to power-up for five minutes and one run through of exercises. You’ll do Side Push-ups, Kickstand Touch-the-Floor, Eight-Power-Knees/Four-Diamond-Jumps and Balance Push-ups. But it’s the last circuit, so dig deep and go hard!
All of the max workouts involve a ton of jumping, so you may want to consider a Plyometrics Mat to preserve your knees. Also, any time you are doing a workout that’s this intense (and that counts for all the max workouts), having the proper nutrition in your system is a key element. Save yourself the trouble of trying to figure this out for yourself and just use Insanity Nutrition Products to make sure you’re prepared.
If you’ve already done the Insanity Workout and want something new but just as challenging, or if you want another workout altogether that’s just as hard, consider the P90X workout!
