Shaun T.’s Insanity Workout is a sixty day workout plan that primarily uses the principles of plyometrics to shape your body into a lean muscle, low fat machine! To make sure you know what you’re getting into when you enter the Insanity, we’ll be reviewing each of the workouts on the Finish Well Fitness blog. Today, we’ll talk about the fifth workout, Max Interval Circuit
This is an hour-long workout that’s really going to kick your circuit training into gear. You’ll begin your workout with Shaun T. leading you through the warm-up and stretch portion that he likes to begin all workouts with.
One of the things you may have noticed is that your workout length has now increased from forty minutes to fifty-nine minutes now that you’ve crossed over from your recovery week into the second half of Insanity, Max Insanity. Don’t panic! You’ve spent the first month building up your cardio and strength, and your body is ready to increase its challenge. Plus, you’ll need to elevate to the hour long workout in order to have your best body at the end!
You’ve also now moved into having three sets of exercises per workout. Like before, each set of exercises will be done in three sets with increasing intensity. However, in this phase of Insanity, the times that you do each exercise change. You’ll do a four minute round, a three minute round and then another three minute round – followed by a quick cardio kick-in.
Your first set of exercises will include: Pedal/Power Lunges, Ski Abs and Jacks, Power Strikes and Frog Jumps. Your second set of exercises will include: Hook Jumps, High Knees with Twist, High/Low Jab with Squats and Floor Switch Kicks. Finally, your last round of exercises will include: Side Suicide Jumps, Squat Hooks, Full Body Drills and Plank Punches.
You’re back in the game now after a week of recovery. If you took advantage of that recovery time (while still rocking your workouts), you’ll be ready to fully embrace the more intense hour-long Insanity workout. If you didn’t, we fear for you because this workout is hard! Just keep thinking: I will look and feel amazing and have changed my life in a healthy way when I am done with this!
As you can see, this workout involves a ton of jumping, so you may want to consider a Plyometrics Mat to preserve your knees. Also, any time you are doing a workout that’s this intense, having the proper nutrition in your system is a key element. The Insanity Nutrition Products make this easy.
If you’ve already done the Insanity Workout and want something new but just as challenging, or if you want another workout altogether that’s just as hard, consider the P90X workout!
